Title: Buying a second hand scoot
Post by hazelnut on Jun 11th, 2009 at 8:01am
Hi

Does anyone have any experience of buying a second hand vehicle here in Catalunya?

I know to ask for the vehicle papers and the current ITV!

But are there any other pit falls?  Like unpaid parking fines?

How do you transfer the vehicle into your name etc?

How much does it cost to transfer ownership?

Is It complicated?

Any advice wiould be appreciated

I know that when buying a car there is a charge for changing titles over. My Dad has done this a few times. He said it was about 500 euro's. But as he bought from a dealer and they took care of the paper work.

The are people the offer this service that advertise in the Costa Blanca news. It can be done by post ;) ;)

It must be against the EU  legislation spain is totally crap at protectionism and paperwork. I think I will move back to the UK

Hi Stuart

We purchased an old 4x4 which was registered in Spain from some English friends, and the gestor took charge of all the paperwork involved.  It took absolutely ages but the charge was only about 200e as far as I remember.

I have read somewhere than when purchasing a vehicle that it is a good idea to go to the gestor with the vendor so that you can get a check on any fines or taxes due and ensure that they are deducted from the purchase price.  We were told that the purchaser is responsible for the transfer costs.

Hope that this helps

Tony
