Title: cooker Post by robo on May 2nd, 2012 at 11:00am
hi all, would anyone know a shop that sells cookers that will run of bottled gas, the one we have came off the ark and as we are over next week i need to sort one, we have been managing to cook most meals in the oven on top of the log burner but as the weather gets hotter we do not want to light it, a decent used one would be ok but all the ones we have seen only run on mains gas

I'm sure they're available. There was one in our house when we came here. We now have a gas hob and electric oven. Try somewhere like Hyper Europa (Tortosa/Amposta) and specify Butano. Plenty of rural properties here would need them.

We got ours from Hyper Europa a couple of years ago, they had a limited choice but stiil had three or four on show.

We got ours from Carrefour in Vinaros.
Think they only had a couple, but it has a space to keep the bottle in, which is good. |

Gas Cooker or as they say down the local....Butano cocina
You can buy them on Ebay Spain. If its just a hob you require most come with a set of LPG jets. If you can not find one on ebay or on the site below. Get one from Ebay in the UK and get Les and his trusty van to bring it over from the UK.Hes going in the next day or so. I saved hundreds of pounds on our Bosch dishwasher doing it the Les way......Ohhh Errr Missus :o http://www.segundamano.es/anuncios-tarragona/butano-cocina/?ca=43_s&w=1&th=1&f=a&q=butano+cocina&c=0&x=1&fc=&sb=&st=a Here is one from the above site.I had it set for search within Tarragona but you can adjust the area of search within Spain if you want to travel for the right item. http://www.segundamano.es/tarragona/cocina-de-gas-con-horno/a25622189/?ca=43_s&st=a&c=13 As you can see most cookers here in Spain come with instructions......Here are a "Couple" of Guardian readers getting to grips with the new Aldi top of the range. The "CAMPO" cooker retails at 7 euros. LPG_cooker_with_instructions.jpg (Attachment deleted)

Would an lpg cooker bought in the UK be compatible for use in Spain?

Don't quote me on this but I think the main difference between all gas cookers is the jets. I brought our gas hob from Ikea in Barcelona and the fitted jets were for town gas. I forget where I got my advice from but the net result was I bought the right jets for Butane from a woman who has a shop in Amposta in the area where the outdoor market is held. I fitted them myself (just unscrew the town gas jets and screw in the butane ones). Never had any problems except that I can't turn the jets down quite low enough sometimes but there's probably a main adjustment somewhere.

We bought a gas cooker from Dolores in Tortosa which is found at the top of the pedestrian area and turn left. No delivery charge to Alfara either. Only problem is that the oven does not have a regulo which makes it difficult to gauge the neat for baking and I am not very fond of burnt seed cake.
We did bring a cooker over from the UK but could only obtain jets for the hob which meant that the oven and grill got very hot. |

Tony,
The problems you had with your UK cooker, was that because it was a mains gas one? Not sure what the jets actually do but would one with uk "jets" work with Spanish bottles? |

Yes, our cooker was one for mains gas in the UK but changing the jets meant that the hob could be used for butano.

Edesa do a butano cooker and hob oven. It's more than €300 so probably not what robo is looking for. Might be able to pick one up second hand though.

+1 I also got my gas cooker there. They delivered and installed it (also got a washing machine, fridge & microwave there). Found them great to deal with. |

We went back to them yesterday for a new freezer and found that they had the best selection in town. And they don't charge to deliver, at least not to Alfara which is nearly 18k out of town.
