Title: Clocks change?
Post by Ritaratbag on Sep 27th, 2013 at 2:41pm
It could be that the clocks will change here, to be on the same time as the U.K. and some other countries.
Let's wait and see what happens.

But why shouldn't it be the last weekend of October as it always is?

Sorry I meant to say maybe, Spain will change to G.M.T
In October?

But why the doubt?

Sorry to be pedantic but there's no such thing now as G.M.T.  The ISO is UTC (Coordinated Universal Time but it's in French),  The Canaries (Spain) keeps the same time as UK as does Portugal and Madeira.  Fortunately all the clocks change at the same time each spring and autumn.   I used to have to work out local clock flight tickets for charter flights from UK to the Canaries then on the Lanzarote and then to Madrid at the time when Portugal and UK changed their clocks one week adrift from Spain.  There were, I shudder to remember, a number of coockups !!!!  Hooray for stanardization.

Colin, I think Rita might be referring to this:

" following a vote by a parliamentary commission on Thursday recommending that Spain turn its clocks back an hour and introduce more regular working days, starting at 9am and ending at 5pm."

I guess it would save us ex-pats having to do the difficult calculations with the TV schedules  ::)  I've often wondered if anybody has ever suggested to the Iberian powers that be that it might make sense to swap to office hours (9 - 5) for 6 months in the winter.  It would save a lot of commutes and fuel costs.
