Fencing off land

Hello to you,
Alan and I are safely back in the uk after 2 weeks at our finca. Got quite a few jobs done which was good but time flew by and didn't get to do everything we planned (including a visit to the Shelbourne!)

We plan to fence off 2 terraces around our house with the main purpose to keep my dog safe and close by to the house.  We want to know an approximate cost for this.  We have looked on the leroymerlin site but can't see any prices for the posts or the fencing.  We want the galvanised fencing that you can see through quite easily.  Does anyone know an approximate costing for this - and how far apart should the posts be?

Regards Haze and Alan
P.s. Nigel. the fridge works a treat!

We were quoted €15/m for 2m high chicken wire type fencing.  This included erecting but putting our own posts in.  Don' t know how far apart the posts should be though.

Quote was from Ebre Metal on the Ravel de Crist to Roquetes road.

You can buy all the fencing kit at Mayors but I don't know how much it is yet.  Still looking.

hi Hazel and Alan
We looked at the metal fence panels in the reclamation yard. I can't remember how much they are. We want to fence off 300 metres of our land and we are looking at all the possibilities. They are about 3metres wide but you need to install concrete posts. Do you know anyone who installs fencing?

Hi Pondgirl  - thanks for your reply - we will go to Mayors when we're next down.
Hi Angela and John - what we are looking for are the metal posts (piquetes?) and then the galvanized fencing (not panels) - a bit like chicken wire but not in squares - more in lines if that makes sense - you see it all round fincas around Tortosa.
We found a good guide on how to install the fencing on the Leroy Merlin site but no reference to them selling the posts or the wire fencing.
Thanks for your help

If you want to pour the concrete footings then come back to put up the fencing, do what the locals do and pour the concrete with an upside down plastic water bottle in it. You can then come back, cut the ends off them and drop the post into the bottle and secure it with a splodge of cement.

Helps divide the task into the messy and the neat stages.

PB
(You may have to fill the water bottle to stop it crushing)

Well, Pondboy , that is possible on the basis that Hazeaandalan is going to build a skirt wall under the fence to give yourself a level face to work from but if they were gonna erect a fence straight from the ground as it seems they are, then that approach will not work. What ever they do they will need  properly supported corner posts (usually achieved by angled sections in each direction to "brace" the main upright, two or three main running wires will be spanned between the braced main uprights. These will need tensioning (hence the supported main uprights)- to much tension and you run the risk of pulling supports over during winter time (shrinkage) and the opposite if your span wires are to slack. You will fix you diamond mesh or what-ever fence you buy to that. Just find a fence that looks like what you want and see what they have done. Not exactly rocket science!!

Good luck....
