Really disgusting what some people will do.
Why? Oh! Why? do they not get their animals sterilized, then this would not happen time and time again.

It's sad but true, I have never seen puppies abandoned like this in the UK. Please don't blame the 'crisis' because this has been going on for years and years. It is a problem of attitude and it needs to change, quickly. Cry

I know of some English people out here who have treated their animals just as badly.

I was very careful in the article not to mention any race of people - it is a problem of education.

The people that can casually discard a litter of puppies in this manner, and cause untold suffering in the mother must be shown that there is no need for it, and that it can be avoided.

This is the message that needs to be passed on.

My response was to almendra and although you said you weren't singling out any particular race  you did say: "That we live in a rural area and life has been hard in the not too distant past is  valid, but please, please, please update your attitude to animals. " Which seems fairly uneqivocal.

It wouldn't bother me if you were singling out a race anyway.  Personally I think that the Spanish and Catalans, with honourable exceptions, have an appallingly casual attitude towards animal cruelty, and welfare only applies to animals that are valuable, like horses or 'handbag' dogs.

I think that it will take more than 'education' to change the attitude of hunters who abandon dogs at the end of the season or anyone who who can't be arsed to have their animal spayed.  If you tell them that it is wrong they'll just shrug.  What can they be told that will create a sea change in attitude?  They really, really don't care.

Hear hear! Pondgirl couldn't agree more.  We have 6 dogs all abandoned on the campo and in the last few weeks have seen 2 others just thrown over the high bridge over the baranca. I have heard a rumour that the adjuntament want all dogs to be registered with them, I doubt that the locals will bother Angry

There have been nationwide demonstrations, about animal mistreatment throughout Spain.
More actions, and prison sentences for people, ill treating or neglecting their animals.
