Just seen this on the TV news,how sad.   

So not only do they want to be up your backside whilst driving cars but they also want to do it whilst driving a train.  The man should go to jail for the rest of his natural, if not garrotted.  What is it about this nation and their devotion to speed ?

How much pressure was the driver put under by the rail bosses because if you are running late by 15 minutes then there are huge refunds to passengers. There always is two sides to a story. Neither story helps the dead or their relatives.........

I am afraid it goes much further than just a matter of going too fast. It seems thet the dangwerous bends  on the track could have easily avoided if the renfe had bought up the land  needed to make a straight track,only that made  it more expensive. apart from that  they could have  used the  same system es on the barcelona-madrid line: automatic stopping  or slowing down at dangerous situations along the line.So please do not condemn anybody until you know the whole truth.it is easy to say the spanish like driving too fast,I should like to hear that there is a country in which all the inhabitants drive according to the  prescribed speed!!!!!

Tony, the picture (singular) on his facebook page was taken 16 months ago and he is permitted to drive at that speed on certain parts of the track.  Just saying.

He has now been formally accused of reckless homicide and has until Sunday to make a statement. 

Without knowing what the black box recorded it's impossible to form a watertight opinion on what happened.  He's an experienced driver and has apparently driven that route about sixty times.  He would have been warned to start braking before the tunnel, about four km from the start of the 80 limit.  He would have known exactly what speed he should have been going.  So he either took his eye off of the ball (that would only be for a minute and a half at 190kph), thought he could handle the extra speed or there was a mechanical malfunction somewhere or a combination.
