Motorway toll companies say the Spanish State should apply fees to all major trunk roads.
This would provide up to 10 million euros for the public coffers!

Surely it would be cheaper, as it would require no infrastructure, to restrict HGVs to motorways unless they have good reason to be on the trunk roads.  It is easily policed, forces the trucks onto the toll roads and keeps towns that have no bypass quieter thus not needing the expense of the bypass without 'killing off' such towns that would still be used by lighter traffic.

eg  If any truck that did not reasonably have l"Aldea on its itinerary (just passing through) it would have been on the AP7 paying toll and thus the cost of building the recently opened bypass could have been avoided or at very least postponed.

Just a thought!

Forcing trucks onto the motorway network will increase the operating costs for the hauliers.  Everything we buy has part of it's journey by truck.  Operators merely pass on increased operating costs to the end user.  Your cornflakes go up in price so you can pay the road tolls for the hauliers. It's not rocket science and there is a reason why some hauliers avoid toll roads. The success, or lack of it, can be seen by the gridlock on Englands M6 and the free running M6 Toll Road. Prices set too high for H,G.V's. Smiley

Toll will be paid either way so the truckers might as well pay toll on the motorway rather than the trunk road and the cost of installing toll booths etc on the trunk roads is avoided.  Simples!!!

DenGeo, has got it in one making trucks pay on toll roads is totally counter productive as its only going to make prices rise for the consumer, and that means you! 44 ton trucks run on very fine margins, and especially the food chain trucks.... just think any disruption to supermarket deliveries because of the higher cost of distribution then your local supermarket would be empty, as they carry very little stock. that's why supermarkets in the uk run their own fleets so they are subsidised by their food sales .

Not only Supermarkets what about the White good we buy in the shops. they would go up in price.
When l was delivering in Europe l was glad to get off a motorway and get on the national. They were so bloody boring. Trouble was most employers did not like you to use the motorway too expensive.
All this talk about tolls is just talk it will never happen. Wink
