Delta Snail problem

In the next few weeks the Dept. of Agriculture will launch an action plan against the pest snail which is causing problems in the rice fields on the Delta.
They plan to flood the fields and drains with salt water.
The cost is estimated at 600,000 euros which the Government will finance.

Last year we noticed an increase in the areas of inner canals with the pink snail eggs.  This year we have seen more and more fields with the eggs in place on the rice.  The Chinese Apple Snail has the potential to dessimate the rice crop.  Lets hope this initiative works, although they will still be present in great numbers in the river.
