Car accident here in Spain

Well I suppose when push comes to shove, you never really know what will happen until you are in a real life situation.................that's what I found out last Friday afternoon, when I was involved in a very nasty car accident.

To cut a long story short, it was the other drivers fault (Spanish male around 65 years old) My 16 year old Son escaped without a scratch, thank God and so did the driver of the other car.

Me, well I was semi conscious, with chest and rib injuries, unable to move. The ambulance took me off to hospital, while my Son who stayed calm and very adult throughout the whole scenario, stayed onsite until my friends also arrived to bring him back home.

He photographed everything, liaised with the Mossos and the Firemen etc, giving an account of what had happened.

He immediately called my insurance broker, Sammy Thomas, who advertises on this forum, who immediately went into action telling Ryan what to do from an insurance point of view.

Sammy has been in constant contact all weekend, asking for different information etc, and is now in the process of helping to claim for injuries sustained, and also the fact that my airbag didn't deploy on a 3 year old Chevrolet 4x4 Captiva.

I will update this post as things develop.

Update to the car accident last Friday 16th May:

Had to go to the Doctor twice last week, and going again this coming Monday, she has given me a baja (sick note) as I'm self employed. She is quite concerned about a large lump in the bruised area of my chest.

I still cannot drive, and it's painful to get in and out of a car or my bed.

Went with friends for lunch today (to relive the boredom) and bumped into a couple of Mossos also dining. One of them is a friend of a friend, and the other one actually attended the accident, and he recognised my Son.

Apparently the driver of the other car was over the limit when breathalised (no surprise there after menu del dia time) and the police report is all in my favour.

Sammy Thomas the Insurance broker who is handling my claim has recommended a private Lawyer who has previously represented Nestle and Pepsi here in Spain, so I have accepted his services to claim for my injuries and also to sue Chevrolet for the non deployment of my air bag.

Chevrolet were fined only last week in the US for 35 million dollars for faults on different models of cars, so maybe they can now add air bags to the list.

Will keep you all posted with any developments, and thank you Sammy for your continued support and professionalism.

Only just read this.  Hope you are continuing to recover well jools and that the lump wasn't anything sinister.  Good luck with the case and very reassuring to have such continuing good support from your broker.
